La marque Jacobs
By Louis Alloing and Rodolphe, Delcourt Publisher
The Belgian Comic Strip Center is absolutely delighted to welcome within its walls the biography in comic-strip form of Edgar P. Jacobs, the creator of Blake et Mortimer. From the Sablon area to the Monnaie Opera, from Vaudeville to the A L’Innovation department stores, the most important events in his life are all inscribed in the memory of the Brussels city centre, just a few steps away from the Belgian Comic Strip Center.
The idea of recounting his adventures in the same style as the series was very appealing. It was then a question of tracking down the rare birds capable of meeting such a challenge. In the Ligne Claire style which has withstood the tests of time and passing trends so well, Louis Alloing and Rodolphe tell of the exemplary – and eventful – life of one of the pillars of the Belgian comic strip, the friend of Hergé and co-founder of the Tintin magazine.

La Marque Jacobs, a life in comic-strip form
Edgar Pierre Jacobs is, alongside Hergé and Franquin, one of the three pillars of the 20th century Belgian comic strip. La Marque Jacobs tells his story. Born in Brussels in 1904, Jacobs became a baritone opera singer and an illustrator and was active in both professions. He published his first major story Le Rayon U during the second World War. He then began collaborating with Hergé, helping him to create the Sept boules de cristal and Le temple du soleilamong other works. The first of his mythical adventures of Blake et Mortimer appeared in the first issue of the "Journal de Tintin" on 26 September 1946, with the story Le secret de l’Espadon. From 1947 he ceased working with Hergé to devote all his time to these two characters. He died in 1987 in his house in Walloon Brabant.
