In the mid-20th century, thanks to the inventiveness of its creators and the dynamism of its publishers, Belgium became the European leader in comic book publishing. To reach a wide readership, characters that were born in periodicals quickly crossed borders and expanded beyond frames. Merchandising, advertising, animated films, cinema, radio, television, video games and more, helped the heroes "made in Belgium" take root in the collective imagination, span generations, and even make their way to Hollywood. The exhibition A Century of Belgian Comics reveals the secrets of this epic journey in an immersive, poetic, and all-ages exhibition.
